I bought real red roses. Not the forced blooms. These were so deep red they were almost black in colour. It was lovely to see them open up naturally day by day and fluff out.

Remember all my lurid CAKE POSTS? Well, I was a spectator until now. Everything changed today.

Earlier this evening, while buying bread at Albert bakery,when a customer bought a slice of one of their richly iced cakes, I openly gasped as the bakery man liberally poured condensed milk all over it and handed it over to her.

I bought one for myself too. One has to try everything at least once.

Bakery man was liberal with the condensed milk for me too.

The verdict? One spoonful was all I could imbibe. The hit of sugar, cream and condensed milk rocketed my system skyward into one dizzying ride. I've crash landed but the feeling of disgust has yet to wear off. This cake is the fluffy, lacy, candy coloured, fishnet stockinged floozy of the cake world. Now I fully understand the meaning of temptation. Now I understand why sinners flagellate themselves for their transgressions.
It's back to fresh fruit and boiled vegetables for me...

Greatest Breakfast Ever

I ate the BEST brownie ever. It was so rich I could eat only small slices at a time. It was like eating intense chocolate butter but with just that hint of crispness to the edges, which is what an excellent brownie is all about. The brownie was partnered with strong filter coffee of course! :-)

Brahmin Breakfast

One hasnt' really 'lived' in Bengaluru if one hasn't eaten at Brahmin's Coffee Bar at Chamarajpet. I haven't photographed the food because I practically sucked it all in. The idlis were as light as jasmine petals, the chow chow bath melted in my mouth like freshly made butter and the vadas were as crisp as a freshly fried papad with pillowy soft centres. I woke and 6.30am (a first for me) and charged across the city on four buses (yes four!) to eat here. The journey was worth it and I'd do it again at the snap of a finger.
( P, I hope you are reading this...hint, hint...)

The coffee was strrrrrong and generous. No kanjoosness here, it was half a big glass of decoction and then the milk. The high lasted me all day and gave me energy for a big chakkar around Gandhi Bazar (courtesy A).

The Chocolate Sandwich (and other stories)

The unbelievably delicious Chocolate Sandwich. It is melted bars of Cashew Chocolate and Cheese between two slices of generously buttered, toasted bread. Ultimate heaven!

(For those of you who are going to screech 'Chocolate and Cheese?' Shut your gobs and don't pass judgement until you taste the stuff).

The BEST food that Bangalore has to offer is always, ALWAYS in joints like these...

In moments when I glimpse the muted colours of a fading past, I am caught within an ephemeral bubble where time stands still

and for fleeting seconds takes me into a different world

inhabited by otherworld people...

And then, suddenly

far too quickly,

loudly

the flashing colours of the present, bring me back again.
